Connect a Network Devices

Network devices and hosts usually connect to a network using a wired Ethernet or wireless connection. Following are different ways that we are using to connect network devices.
  • Laptops, tablets, and smartphone connect wirelessly to a home router.
  • A network printer and scanners connect using an Ethernet cable to the switch port on the home router.
  • The home router connects to the service provider using a cable modem.
  • The cable modem connects to the ISP network using a telephone line, serial cable and Ethernet Cable.
  • Corporate resources connect to Layer 2 switches using Ethernet cables.
  • Desktop PCs and IP phones connected to Layer 2 switches using Ethernet cables.
  • The WAPs connect to switches using Ethernet cables.
  • Layer 2 switches connect to edge router using Ethernet cables. Edge routers are located between LAN and WAN.
  • The edge router connects to a WAN service provider (SP). It is also connected to a WAN SP.
  • The edge router also connects to an ISP for backup purposes.
  • Layer 2 switches connect redundantly to Layer 3 switches using Ethernet fiber-optic cables.
  • Layer 3 switches connect to the edge router using Ethernet cables.
  • The corporate website server has also connected using an Ethernet cable to the edge router interface.
  • The edge router also connects to an ISP for backup purposes.
